Auto updates

You install fkdr once, with the fkdr app on Windows, macOS or Linux. One build works on both Lunar Client and Forge 1.8.9, and new versions of it download by themselves after that. The fkdr app keeps itself up to date too.

The chat greeting when you join a server says which build you are on and whether it is the latest.

The outdated notice

When a build newer than the one you are running is out, the menu's top bar shows outdated beside the edition name. Hover it and it names the new version and says what finishing the update takes: close the game, open it, close it again, then relaunch. The download happens on its own. The new build only starts once the game has been through that cycle.

The check that feeds it is the same one behind the join greeting, so the notice appears once you have joined a server. No notice means you are on the newest build, or that the check has not answered yet.

Lunar Client

A new build takes two restarts. The first launch gets it, the second runs it. If anything goes wrong, you keep playing on the build you already had.

Forge

A new build also takes two restarts, and it installs as you close the game rather than as you open it. So: play, quit the game normally, and the next launch is on the new build.

Close the game normally rather than killing it. If the game is killed, the install waits until the next normal close.

If an update does not take

  • Nothing changed after one restart: that is expected. Restart again and check the greeting.
  • The game will not start after an update, or fkdr is silently missing: open the fkdr app and press Install again with Lunar and the game closed. See Download & install.
  • Anything else belongs in discord.gg/fkdr with the output of /fkdr licence.
